Backstory:
Hartwin Diefenbaker never wanted to be a soldier. His father was a soldier, his brothers were soldiers and his cousins and uncles were all soldiers too. They all happen to be dead. Killed in battles against the Roman Empire. Nevertheless, Hartwin, without any option for survival in his tribe, was pressed into service as a rearguard soldier under the command of the army of Aureolus.
Merely existing was a major challenge for Hartwin, whose effeminate personality and cowardly behaviour did not suit the military life. Battle after battle, he managed to remain safely behind braver troops, and as long as Aureolus kept winning battles, he was able to stay alive. However, all that changed after his commander was defeated at the siege of Mediolanum by the emperor Claudius Gothicus. Hartwin managed to once again escape north to the hills where his remaining tribesmen were camped. After learning of the death of their commander, the remaining troops refused to flee back to their homeland, choosing to stand their ground and were soon decimated at the Battle of Lake Benacus.
Hartwin, always the clever battle evader, managed to sneak away at the height of battle and flee towards Tridentum. While running through the mountainous woods in the dead of night, he suddenly found the ground beneath him shake and a crevasse open. After falling into the crack and sliding for what felt like minutes, his head slammed into a rock and he passed out.
Hartwin awoke to find himself lying under impossibly bright lights, with his body fully immobilized. He heard a voice utter the words, “subject has awakened”, and was alarmed to see 3 blue faces with sparkling blue eyes staring down at him with grim expressions. One alien remarked with a smirk, “today is your lucky day, yellow man. Now you get to see the world for how it really is.”
